The Scandinavian Music Festival 2024 in Fort Tryon Park, now in its 20th season, is a unique series of three outdoor summer concerts performed by musicians of the Scandia Symphony and guest artists on Sundays in June. The concerts take place in a scenic and attractive venue, on Billings Lawn, below the Heather Gardens and with spectacular views of Hudson River. Musicians of the Scandia Symphony will present the musical treasures and cultural heritage of Scandinavia to the audiences.
June 9th, 2024, 2:00 PM: SCANDIA BRASS QUINTET will perform their special repertoire of popular folk tunes and brass quintets, representing compositions from all of the five Scandinavian countries.
June 14th, 2024, 6:00 PM: In a program titled “SUNSET CONCERT” the SCANDIA STRING QUARTET will appear on Billings Lawn with a backdrop of the sun setting over Hudson River. The concert will feature beautiful string quartets by Scandinavian composers.
June 16th, 2024, 2:00 PM: The “Concerto Program” performed by the Scandia Chamber Orchestra will feature Flutist Lisa Hansen in the Flute Concerto by Baroque composer Johan Helmich Roman, and Principal Violist and Residence Composer Frank Foerster in his own composition Suite of Scandinavian Folk Melodies for Viola and Strings. Other works on this program include Andante Festivo by Jean Sibelius and Gustaviansk Svit by Lars-Erik Larsson.
