Sundays in June at 2:00 pm

In its 13th season, the Scandinavian Music Festival is a unique series of three outdoor summer concerts performed by musicians of the Scandia Symphony and guest artists on Sundays in June. The concerts took place in a scenic and attractive venue, on Billings Lawn, below the Heather Gardens and with spectacular views of Hudson River.  The artists spoke to the audience as they introduced musical characteristics and history of the music and the culture and traditions of Scandinavia.

June 10th, 2018 at 2:00 PM: The Scandia Brass Quintet performed their popular repertoire of contemporary and traditional compositions and arrangements, representing music from each of the five Scandinavian countries, including five national anthems.

June 17th, 2018 at 2:00 PM: “The Tinderbox”. In this special program, created to captivate the imagination of children and the young at heart, our Scandia Ensemble and Narrator Sandra Billingslea took participants on a musical journey in which they actively engaged, learning and interacting with the artists. Text by Hans Christian Andersen and music by Poul Schierbeck and Frank Foerster.

June 24th, 2018 at 2:00 PM: Scandia Strings The String Orchestra performed works by Frank Foerster, Jean Sibelius, Johan Helmich Roman, and Knudage RiisagerSoloist: Mayuki Fukuhara, Violin. Lisa Hansen, Flute
