THE SCANDIA BRASS QUINTET was founded in 2007 and is the initiative of the five principal brass players of the New York Scandia Symphony (founded in 1988). Since its inception, the quintet has performed every summer under the Scandinavian Music Festival, held in Fort Tryon Park (Northern Manhattan) during the month of June. The quintet has also been featured in Victor Borge Hall at Scandinavia House. As the Scandia Symphony, the Scandia Brass Quintet is dedicated to performing music of the Scandinavian countries and composers, introducing unknown and seldom performed compositions to American audiences. The quintet offers a repertoire of classical and contemporary music, composed or arranged for brass quintet, as well as a long list of popular music based on folk songs and hymns, including the national anthems of each of the five Scandinavian countries. The Scandia Brass Quintet features Peter Reit (french horn), Alex Holten (trumpet), Thomas Hoyt (trumpet), Michael Powell (trombone) and Morris Kainuma (Tuba).
